On May 9, 2025, Europe Day was celebrated at the World Expo 2025 in Osaka. Through a series of events organized by the European Union Pavilion and the EU Member States, the day commemorated the 75th anniversary of the signing of the Schuman Declaration.
The celebration began with an official ceremony, followed by a variety of cultural activities throughout the day aimed at promoting European diversity and unity. Visitors had the opportunity to explore the uniqueness of each EU Member State by collecting specially designed stamps in custom-made EU EXPO passports.
The short animated film “Butterfly” by Croatian author Sunčana Brkulj was screened at the EU Pavilion as part of the EU Short Film Showcase, alongside works from other EU Member States.
“Butterfly” is a poetic and visually striking story about a community whose balance is disrupted when a butterfly blocks the water source that sustains them all. Faced with uncertainty, the creatures adapt together and discover new ways of living and working - proving that transformation through unity can lead to something even more vibrant. The film, portraying a community where every being has a unique role, illustrates togetherness, tolerance, and belonging-symbolizing the richness and unity of Europe and its Member States.

The celebration of Europe Day was also marked by a visit from European Commission Commissioner Mr. Maroš Šefčovič to the Croatian Pavilion, during which the shared values and aspirations that unite all EU member states were highlighted, as well as Croatia's commitment to innovation, sustainability, and a united European future.
